Unusual Civil War Tin Canteen, possibly Confederate or Militia

This unique canteen is the first one I have seen of this style. It has a diameter of 7” x 2” wide, and the funnel-shaped tin spout with rolled lip is 1 ¼” high. It has two flat sling holders and all of the joints on the canteen are soldered, which is correct for the era.

The overall size is similar to many Militia and Confederate canteens, but uncommon tin spout has me a little puzzled. It could also be used as a medical canteen, the wider spout would help to give a wounded soldier water.

Possibly this was a request from the soldier to the tinsmith to have that design. In my book “The Civil War Canteen – Third Edition”, I show many Militia and Confederate canteens, but none like this.
