Being offered are some very interesting Revolutionary War pieces. There is a heavy brass Shoulder Belt Plate, measuring 2 ½” x 2” and a brass belt strap buckle measuring 1 ½” x 1”. Both items were recovered from the Monck’s Corner Battlefield, SC.
This battle was fought on April 14, 1780, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina (historically written as Monck's Corner), a strategically significant Lowcountry crossroads located about 32 miles north of Charleston on the western bank of the Cooper River (see map).
The primary engagement happened near Biggin Bridge and Biggin Church, today located near the intersection of State Rd S-8-366 and N. U.S. Hwy 52. British Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton launched a surprise night attack on Patriot cavalry commanded by General Isaac Huger.
Artifacts from this area are very difficult to come by and always sought out by collectors. Similar examples of these relics can be found in “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” by Neumann & Kravic (see pictures). These pieces remain in very nice condition and come in the glass top display case pictured.
With the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding this year, interest in the Revolutionary War and its relics is expected to significantly increase. This renewed enthusiasm will drive demand for virtually all Revolutionary War artifacts, further contributing to their scarcity and rising prices.
I am witnessing a notable uptick in purchases of these items, which reflects the growing interest for the anniversary and the heightened value of Revolutionary War memorabilia.
