Revolutionary War Inkwell with quill, as in books

$165.00

Product Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Revolutionary War era inkwell, ca. 1740 – 1760. It is made of wood with a small iron band and having a 2” diameter and stands 2 1/4” high. Inside is a glass bottle with the early blown pontil on the bottom.  There are similar examples in the “Collectors Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” (see pictures).

This inkwell is very solid but there is an age crack, typical of its use and age, but it doesn’t affect anything because the metal band keeps it secure. The inkwell would go great alongside a period document or letter. The quill is included. A nice early piece that seldom shows up. This type was common in most Revolutionary War installations and camps.

With the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding this year, interest in the Revolutionary War and its relics are significantly increasing. This renewed enthusiasm is driving the demand for virtually all Revolutionary War artifacts, further contributing to their scarcity and rising prices.
