Product Description

This is another early piece coming out of a 60-year collection of French & Indian War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812 artifacts. Being offered is a Revolutionary War socket bayonet, ca. 1752 - 1800. The overall length of the bayonet is 18 ½”, with the blade being 14 7/8”, and the socket section 2 ¾” x 1” diameter.

In “Swords & Blades of the American Revolution’ by George Neumann, he list this as a “Spanish Bayonet” and being used by Americans in the Revolution. The standard infantry arm was the Model 1762, which mounted this bayonet (see pictures).

The bayonet is in nice condition with slight surface rust and some nicks on the blade, but solid with no chipping or flaking. There appears to be a marking on the blade, but I cannot make it out.  This collection began in the late 1950s and was created by private acquisitions, diggers, closed museums, and from lake divers.

Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find. With the upcoming of the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding next year, there will be a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts will be in demand, which will only add to their scarcity and price. I am already seeing a substantial increase in sales.
