Remains of a Colt revolver with serial numbers, dug at the Shiloh Battlefield

$345.00

Product Description

This is a unique piece being offered, it is the frame from a Model 1849 Colt Revolver. It was recovered many years ago at the Shiloh, Tennessee Battlefield. The frame and grip are nicely marked with the Serial # 40919, being manufactured in early 1853. It was recovered years ago from the Shiloh Battlefield.

The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was fought April 6 - 7, 1862, in southwestern Tennessee. The Union army under Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant had moved via the Tennessee River deep into Tennessee and was encamped principally at Pittsburg Landing.

This was on the west bank of the river, where Confederate forces under Generals Albert Sidney Johnston and P. G. T. Beauregard launched a surprise attack on Grant's army. The Confederates achieved considerable success on the first day but were ultimately defeated on the second day.

Battlefield recovered firearms are rare and always sought out, especially Colts. No doubt, this one was used during the battle. It is not complete but having two matching serial numbers is very important for its provenance. It is in solid condition and comes in the deep glass top display case pictured.
