RARE – Revolutionary War Pocket Powder Horn, as in museums and books (SOLD)

Being offered is a rare 18th century pocket powder horn. It has a unique oval two-piece shape with an overall measurement of 4” x 2 ½” x 1 ½” and having its original small wooden stopper.

These smaller size18th-century powder horns were a unique American innovation, essentially a natural cow horn in a size that made it convenient to carry. They were perfect for Revolutionary War soldiers and frontiersmen to keep gunpowder dry and small enough to be put in a pocket or haversack for carrying.

There are examples in museums and in “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” by Neumann & Kravic (see pictures). There is also one displayed in the Revolutionary War Concord Museum in Massachusetts (see pictures).

Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find, and I am fortunate to have quite a few pieces in stock. With the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding this year, there is a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts are in demand, which only adds to their scarcity and price.
