This is a rare book I am offering that has been in my collection for many years. It is hardcover and measures approximately 6.50 x 9.75 inches. The stippled cloth covers are a faded maroon with embossed spread-winged eagle surrounded by the embossed title “SOLDIERS NATIONAL CEMETERY GETTTYSBURG.”. Inside it shows when it was published “1864”.
The 112 page book contains a report on the founding of the Soldier’s National Cemetery at Gettysburg as well as an interesting section listing items found in the pockets of the dead when they were dug up and reinterred on in the cemetery and the names of many of those identified. It also has a report from David Wills, Samuel Weaver, Evan Everett, etc. It also includes a hymn, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and the benediction by Rev. Baugher.
The interior has an 1863 map in the beginning and a folding map in the center (this one is usually missing because they were removed and framed). The covers have some staining, and the spine covering is missing. However, the book itself is tight and complete – a good candidate for restoration if desired….although not necessary. This book is rare and seldom shows up.
