Being offered is another rare piece coming out of the large Revolutionary War collection I am working on. It is a hand-sewn brown leather belly box with an outer flap and two belt loops on the back to take a 2 ½” belt.
On the inside are leather pouches sewn which hold ten 2 ¼” metal tubes for insertion of the cartridges. In “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” by Neumann & Kravic, there is a similar 10-tube cartridge box (see pictures). That one was worn by Colonel henry Sherburne of the Continental Army.
This box is in very nice condition with no separations and the leather remains flexible. It comes in the glass top display case pictured. This is truly a museum quality piece.
Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find. With the upcoming of the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding next year, there will be a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts will be in demand, which will only add to their scarcity and price. I am already seeing a substantial increase in sales.
