Being offered is this early 19th Century Tin Candleholder, measuring 3” x 2 ½” x 2”. These were typically New England origin, made by local tinsmiths. The triangular tin is crimped along the edges with the circular candle socket soldered in place.
The small size allowed it to be placed on a windowsill or used for reading in a dark area. Examples such as this made it popular with Civil War soldiers because of its small size and weight, easily fitting into a haversack or backpack. It has a nice, untouched aged dark patina to the surface and the candle is included.
