Being offered is the face plate from a “US” marked padlock. It measures 2 ½” x 3” and on the swivel brass keyhole cover is “US”. These locks would have been used in securing many items; boxes, crates, ammunition crates, etc. It was recovered many years ago from the Manassas, Virginia Battlefield.
Manassas was the site of two major Civil War battles: the First Battle of Manassas (also known as First Bull Run) in July 1861 and the Second Battle of Manassas (also known as Second Bull Run) in August 1862. These battles were significant events in the war, demonstrating the conflict would be long and costly.
It remains a very solid piece and has been coated for preservation. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
