This is a very interesting piece being offered, it is a single Civil War young boys boot. It measures 9” high, the bottom is 6 ½” from toe to heel, and it is 2 ½” wide. It is made exactly as a full-size soldier’s boot.
My first thought was that it might be a salesman’s sample, but that is impossible because it is very well worn. I believe a Civil War officer or soldier had a pair of these boots specifically made for his son. Obviously, the boy really appreciated his boots and probably wore them everyday until he grew out of them.
I did a display once and showed quite a few of interesting artifacts, but what seemed to catch everyone’s attention was this small boot. I show this boot next to a full size boot (not included) just for comparison (see pictures). Although worn and dirty, it is still in great displayable condition. It is really a one-of-a-kind artifact.
