Professionally framed First National Flag fragments, 1920 Chicago Historical Society

Being offered are the remnants  from the First National Flag of the Confederacy. It measures 8 5/8” X 7/8” X 11 3/8”. They are framed with double glass with an informational page on the back that reads: "The First National Flag On March 5, 1861, the provisional government of the Confederacy passed a resolution adopting the Stars and Bars as its first national flag.

The flag from which this remnant comes belonged to the famous Charles F Gunther collection, which was sold to the Chicago Historical Society in 1920. The flag measured 60 x 90 inches with a circle of twelve stars, representing the number of states of the Confederacy, on the canton. It was made of silk, a delicate fabric which deteriorated quickly over time”.

This is truly a rare piece of Civil War history and is in excellent condition and ready to hang on the wall of your office or recreation room.
