This is another interesting piece being offered; it is a rare Revolutionary War pocketknife, circa 1740 - 1780. It measures 8 ½” open and 4 ¾” x ¾” closed. It has a single blade that is still straight and not chipped. The wooden handle is attached with copper pins and is still tight and complete.
Similar pocketknives such as this can be found in “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution”, by Neumann and Kravic (see pictures). There are also examples in the Colonial Williamsburg Museum and the Fort Ticonderoga Museum (see pictures). As expected for being well over 250 years old, there are a few worm holes in the wood, but does not affect the overall condition. This is an interesting piece and does not show up very often. It is rare to find these complete Revolutionary War pocket knives in this condition.
