French & Indian War / Revolutionary War 2” cannonball, recovered at Ft. Ticonderoga

Being offered is a rare small solid-shot cannonball. It has a diameter of 2 inches and weighs 1 pound. During the French & Indian War and Revolutionary War, both sides made extensive use of artillery and 1-pounder cannons (see pictures). This ball was recovered many years ago from Fort Ticonderoga, NY.

The fort was originally built by the French as Fort Carillon in 1755, and was a vital strategic post defined by two major engagements. The crushing French victory at the Battle of Carillon (1758) and the British capture (1759) that led to its renaming

This ball is very solid and in nice condition, also coated for preservation. The British and Americans both used the 1-pounder small light weight cannons because they were lighter and could be moved quickly by the artillerists. The ball comes with the acrylic display case pictured.

With the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding this year, interest in the Revolutionary War and its relics is significantly increasing. This renewed enthusiasm is driving the demand for virtually all Revolutionary War artifacts, further contributing to their scarcity and rising prices.
