Early English pewter spoon, ca. 1690 – 1725, as in museum

$125.00

Product Description

Being offered is a Revolutionary War / Colonial era pewter spoon measuring 7” x 2 ½”.  It is a transitional English spoon showing the typical deep, round bowl and drawn handle of English spoons dating from the last quarter of the 17th century while offering the shaped handle of the 1st quarter of the 18th century.

There is a British Crown hallmark on the inside of the bowl near the handle. There is an example of one of these spoons in the Smithsonian Museum (see pictures). All original and period, this rarely surviving common use spoon remains in excellent condition with that natural age patina of antique pewter.

Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find. With the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding this year, there is a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts are in demand, which only adds to their scarcity and price. I am seeing a substantial increase in sales.
