DEPARTMENT OF NEW YORK GAR BADGE, DATED 1904

This is another nice GAR medal being offered, measuring 4 ½” x 1 ½”. The badge is made of three rectangular bars linked by chain with a round drop wrapped within a laurel wreath. The top bar is surmounted by a spread-winged eagle. The bar reads “DELEGATE” with the second bar reading “38th ANNUAL” and the third reads “ENCAMPMENT.”

The drop at the bottom holds a bust of the unnamed Department Commander surrounded by “DEP’T OF N.Y. GAR-ROCHESTER JUNE 14-15-04.” Behind the four pieces of the badge hangs a red ribbon.

The original pin is present on the reverse as is the original maker’s label on the ribbon, “WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO., NEWARK, N.J.”. This is a beautiful medal and in very nice condition.
