Confederate Script “I” Infantry Button, recovered from the Antietam Battlefield

$265.00

Product Description

Being offered is a great looking excavated Confederate Script “I” button. It measures 21.8 mm and has a standup shank and blank back, typically referred to as a local button. This button was dug many years ago from the Antietam Battlefield.

The Battle of Antietam, also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg, particularly in the South, was fought on September 17, 1862. This was the first major battle in the Civil War to take place on Union soil. It is the bloodiest single-day battle in American history, with a combined tally of dead, wounded, and missing at 22,717.

This button is in very nice condition, with no pushes or cracks, indicative of an early recovery. These buttons are rare by themselves, but also coming from one of the most important battles of the Civil War, makes it special. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
