A while back I was fortunate to acquire a large collection of original Gettysburg Battlefield bullets. They are all well documented with great provenance from a private collection. This one is a .58 caliber 2-ring Gardner bullet. It was recovered by Iva Rosensteel many years ago at McAllister Mill, Gettysburg.
McAllister’s Mill sat on Rock Creek and was the far right of the Union line just south of Culp’s Hill. Iva was the sister of George Rosensteel, who was the founder of the Gettysburg National Museum and the famous Electric Map. The Rosensteels were, of course, the most famous artifact collecting family in Gettysburg and the bulk of the relics on display at today's Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center came from the Rosensteels.
In my book “Battle of Gettysburg – The Relics, Artifacts & Souvenirs”, I discuss the Rosensteels in further detail. It comes in the acrylic display case pictured.
