This is another nice item being offered, it is a Civil War soldier’s tin cup. It measures 4 3/4 inches tall with a 4 1/2-inch diameter with a flat bottom, all the seams are soldered which is correct for the era and holds roughly a quart. Not signed (none were) but classic with the loop handle secured to the lip with two rivets.
These cups are always seen in Civil War museums and there are examples in “Time/Life – Fighting Men of the Civil War” and in “Arms and Equipment of the Union” (see pictures).
The cup is in excellent condition with only minor denting, only some light tarnishing from storage. These cups are becoming very difficult to find. I have one in my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items” (see pictures). They go great in a display of a soldier’s personal effects.
