Being offered is a tin shaving cup, tin removable soap dish, and a toothbrush without any bristles. The cup stands " high with a diameter of 3” (not counting handle or side compartment). It has a rolled lip and a flat bottom, along with all of the seams being soldered, as correct for the Civil War period. It also has the attached side compartment for the razor and soap.
There are similar examples of this shaving cup in The Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia, by Francis Lord. You will see these tins in just about all of the Civil War museums (see pictures). In my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I show an identified set to a soldier in the 61st New York Infantry (see pictures)
The overall condition of the grouping is very nice, some very slight surface rust, but a very solid piece. This one has the removable soap dish, which is always missing, it is the first one I had where it was still present. It would go great with a display of a soldier's personal effects or in a camp display.
