Civil War “Novelty” CDV, child trying on father’s boot

$30.00

Product Description

Being offered is one of a collection of Civil War era “Novelty” CDVs I recently acquired. This one is titled “PAPA’S BOOTS”. It shows a young child (could be a boy or girl, at that age they were dressed the same). The child is trying to put on the father’s military boot. The back is blank.

With the Civil War occupying the minds of the nation, a sense of melancholy and nostalgia was a feeling not only among the soldiers far away, but the loved ones at home. These inexpensive cards were popular because they touched on the simple pleasures and scenes that seemed to be replaced by the war.

Receiving this card from home or purchasing it from a camp sutler, would let the soldier remember what he had waiting for him upon his return. However, sometimes they would have the opposite effect by making the soldier homesick. The CDV is in nice condition, only a few spots and a smudge. I discuss this subject further in my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”. (FREE SHIPPING)
