This is another great button from the large Civil War collection I am currently working on, it is a Civil War Massachusetts Militia button. The button depicts the state seal of Massachusetts, arm with sword, and was intended for troops from Massachusetts.
The Civil War backmark is "D. EVANS & CO. ATTLEBORO (dot) MASS" on a ribbon reading clockwise, flower at bottom, this is circa 1850's - 1860's. It is a two-part non-dug coat size button, relatively low convex, and measuring 22mm. It also has a tight standup shank. In Tice’s book it is MS208a2 and MS34 in Albert’s book. The face retains most of its bright gilt. A really beautiful button.
