This is another nice item being offered, it is a Civil War era japanned tin saltshaker. It measures 4” high and has a diameter of 3” on the bottom. It has a removable top, flat bottom and all the seams are soldered, as correct for the era.
These shakers could also be used for sprinkling flour or sugar, but the majority of times used for salt. It would be typical of what many officers and enlisted men would have available in camp. It is a little worn, but it is very solid with a good bit of the original jappaned finish present. It would make a great addition to a soldier’s personal effects or in a camp scene.
