This is a rare CDV image being offered of Confederate General Charles F. Henningsen. It is a three-quarter standing image of him in mid-19th century attire, no known images of him in uniform. It has the famous backmark of “E. & H.T. Anthony” of 501 Broadway, NY.
Henningsen was born in England of Swedish parents, He was a soldier of fortune who fought in a variety of different wars (in Spain, Russia, Hungary, Nicaragua, and America), but always had the misfortune to fight for the losing side.
On August 1st 1861, he was named Colonel of the 59th Virginia. Served in North Carolina and Virginia (principally in command of the Artillery in Wise's Legion). He was promoted Brigadier General and commanded defenses of Richmond.
This is a rare and desirable CDV and it is in very nice clear condition, no creases or bends.
