Beautiful non-dug Confederate Virginia Button

This is another nice non-dug Confederate Virginia coat-size button being offered, measuring 22.5mm. The face has the Virginia symbolism of Virtus slaying the tyrant with “VIRGINIA / SIC / SEMPER / TYRANNIS”, which is Latin and translates as "Thus unto tyrants". The original back and stand-up shank are present with the correct Civil War maker's mark of “SCOVILL M.F.G. CO. * WATERBURY *”.

This button was examined by one of the leading authorities on Civil War buttons in the country and said it is one of the rarer Virginia buttons. He also feels it should be priced much higher than what I have it listed at. It is in beautiful condition and would be difficult to upgrade. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
