Product Description

The Battle of Gettysburg ended, but what was left behind, was unimaginable, 51,000 casualties (23,000 Union and 28,000 Confederate). Private residences took in and cared for these suffering soldiers. Without the caring townspeople, the death rate would have increased tremendously. The soldiers from both sides, even in the midst of battle, realized that they were part of history in the making.

As in any momentous event, the participants sought some kind of remembrance from the conflict, something they could gaze at in their twilight years and reminisce about being part of such an historical event. Be it a button, a bullet, canteen, photograph, letter, or even a handful of the sacred soil…..just something. Collecting of these relics continued with the returning veterans, right up until today. I have spent the last 20+ years acquiring, cataloging, and documenting many of these rare Gettysburg artifacts and has now included them in this book. Also included are the souvenirs, with some of the rare early examples, which now have become collectible in themselves.

The full-color version of "Battle of Gettysburg – The Relics, Artifacts & Souvenirs" was published in 2008 (also available). Now it is being released in this soft-cover black and white version (color covers) with not only the same rare artifacts as the earlier edition, but with many additional updates. This is the first serious study ever published dealing with Gettysburg artifacts and destined to be a valuable reference resource.

There are over 750 photographs, 171 pages, and a full index. If requested, I will gladly sign and personalize your copy, just email me the details. It would also make a great gift for someone who loves Gettysburg or Civil War history. This book, as well as my others, can also be found on YouTube. In December, 2011, I received the highest rating available for the book in the monthly newsletter of The Lone Star Book Review.  ($5.00 Priority Mail shipping)
