18th-century lead-glazed Earthenware Jug circa, 1750 – 1800

This is a beautiful 18^th century clay jug being offered. It measures 10” high, a diameter of 3 ¾” on the mouth of the jug, and 2 ¾” on the base. It has stunning glazed green markings around the top and sides.

Highly popular in 18th-century British and early American utilitarian earthenware, the application of eye-catching glazed designs was popular. It was a rapid and highly skilled way to make cheap household goods visually appealing.

There are examples of this unique jug in “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” by Neumann & Kravic, the Colonial Williamsburg Museum, and shards of a green jug in in Fort Ticonderoga Collection (see pictures).
