Silver Quarter dated "1861", beginning of the Civil War (SOLD,WS)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is a U.S. 1861 Seated Liberty Quarter – the first year of the Civil War. The designer of these coins is Christian Gobrecht. The obverse has Seated Liberty with the date 1861 below and the reverse has eagle with arrows in talons and the value below. The composition is .900 silver and .100 copper. It weighs 6.2200 grams and the diameter is 24.3 mm. and would be classified as “fine”.

The 1861 U.S. coins are very collectible because of their significance to the Civil War. Most soldiers left home to go off to war with these coins in their pocket. In my recent book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I go into more on this subject (see pictures). They really go well with a display of a soldier’s personal effects.
