Product Description

Being offered is an original paperback copy of “Godey’s Lady’s Book / Vol.LXV. / 1862”. It was an American women's magazine that was published in Philadelphia from 1830 to 1878. It was the most widely circulated magazine in the period before the Civil War. Its circulation rose from 70,000 in the 1840s to 150,000 in 1860. In the 1860s Godey's considered itself the "queen of monthlies".

This magazine has about 100 pages and is loaded with drawings and patterns. Some are actually in color and on thicker paper. The owner’s name is written on the top “Mrs. Brooks Kimball”. As seen in the pictures, there is some slight loss on the sides of the magazine but does not affect the text or drawings. Overall it is complete, and the covers attached to the spine. A very interesting publication from the middle of the Civil War.
