Very Rare - "CS" marked Confederate Spur (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is a great piece being offered, it is a rare “CS” marked Leech & Rigdon, Confederate Cavalry spur. It has a rich, aged, never cleaned, bronze/green patina and file marks are visible. The iron rowel is gone which is common because of the thin metal. Both the raised CS mark on the rear of the spur and the stars on either side remain very visible. When this spur was recovered many years ago, an inch and a half of one of the strap slots with the star was broken off. Amazingly, it was found nearby and has been professionally reattached; it is actually difficult to see (see pictures). This spur was found in Middleton, Tennessee.

Middleton, like most Hardeman County towns, was devastated by the Civil War. With the extension of the Memphis and Charleston Railroad, and construction of depot, made the area very important for getting supplies. Small battles and skirmishes took place almost daily and became part of the Tullahoma Campaign.

Needless to say, these spurs are rare and difficult to find. The better and complete condition demand the highest price, often priced at $2000-plus. Being this one has a repair and the rowel gone; I am listing it at a great price. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
