Product Description

This is a great little pocket book titled “The Doctrines and Discipline of the Methodist Episcopal Church”. It is dated “1860” and published in New York by Carlton & Porter, 200 Mulberry Street. It measures 5 ¼” x 3” x 1” and has 278 pages plus an appendix. There are some faint markings in the beginning and a date “November 19, 186x”.

In my recent book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I write about how important religion was to the Civil War soldier (see pictures). When soldiers left to go off to war, they carried small bibles and religious books such as this, often given to them by their families. The small size made it ideal to put in a pocket or haversack. This one is in very nice condition, a nice tight example and complete.
