Soldier's Leather covered Pocket Mirror

Product Description

This is another great piece being offered, it is a Civil War soldier’s shaving mirror. It is oval shaped and measures 3 ¾” x 2 ½”. The leather-covered case houses an early beveled mirror and it easily slides open for use.

A personal mirror was a necessity for every soldier, it would be needed for shaving and grooming. They had to be small enough to carry in a haversack or backpack. I discuss these types of mirrors and soldier’s hygiene in my recent book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”. Most mirrors are just simple wood, this one is rarer being covered in leather. There is a tiny chip near the top and the mirror is blemished from age, but overall this unique piece is in beautiful condition. It would make a great addition to a display of a soldiers personal effects or in a camp scene.
