Product Description

This coin is made of copper and measures 27mm. It has the “IRISH HARP”, along with a clear 1781 date.  On the obverse, it has the bust of King George III. It is very faint, but the legend on the obverse reads ‘GEORGIVS. III. REX.', which translates as: ' King George III'. The inscription quotes 'HIBERNIA', which means Ireland.

King George III was not liked at all by the American Colonists and was one of the main reasons that started the American Revolutionary War. Because of his taxes and tyrannical rule. The 1781 Date can be clearly read. Irish coppers were minted at London in 1766 and 1769 and again in 1775- 1776 and 1781 – 1782.

This is a great example of Colonial coinage. It was dug at a Colonial site in Virginia years ago. These coins played a significant role in the economy of the American colonies and are always popular with Revolutionary War collectors. It is a great piece of our countries early history.
