This is a CDV style image of Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd. It is a nice clear view of the first lady wearing a beautiful dress standing beside of the President. These images of Mary Todd Lincoln and Abraham were popular after Lincoln's assassination. The citizens wanted to see the lady that Lincoln left behind.

These images were an important part of history from the Civil War era. It was the first practical way to bring images of a famous personality home to the regular people. The people wanted to be able to put a face with the names they read about in the newspapers. You could order through newspaper ads or at local photography studios, of famous personalities for a reasonable amount.

The typical CDV images were made by applying an engraving image onto a thicker cardboard type of paper. This example was made by printing directly on paper with no backing. Overall, it is clear and only a little creasing on one of the corners. This was an inexpensive process which allowed just about anyone to afford one. It comes in the hard plastic sleeve.
