Product Description

This is another great piece from the early 1800's. It is an original 1797 Pattern Naval Boarding Pike, used in the War of 1812. It measures 19 inches in overall length with the blade making up 7 of those inches. They were mounted to the end of 8’ wooden poles and used for up close combat when the ships were side by side and the sailors were boarding the other ship, hence the name boarding pike. They were also used occasionally by ground troops as a regular spear.

These utilitarian weapons take a special person to have a soft spot in their heart for admiring them. Their pragmatic tasks did not make them prized possessions passed down through generations mounted over the fireplace. With that said, this is one of the main reasons why they are rare today.

This one is in superb shape with nice color all over and has never been cleaned or polished. You can see some of the places where they formed the pike and it left forging marks. This is a neat looking piece and would look great in any collection.
