Original Confederate Louisiana Button, recovered in NC

Product Description

This is another rare Confederate button being offered, it is a local Louisiana coat size button, measuring 22mm. The face is lined with the Pelican feeding its young, having traces of the original gold gilt. There is a tiny freeze crack on the rim. The reverse is blank and has the original shank still in place. This button was recovered between Wilmington and Ft. Fisher, NC.

Even though the Confederacy was in dire straights in early 1865, they still managed to send 5,000 men from Tupelo, MS to North Carolina. One of the units was the remnants of the 12th Louisiana Infantry.

This is not a pristine button, but it is complete and displays very well – even has some gold gilt remaining. Louisiana buttons are rare, and the unmarked locals are always very desirable and in demand.
