Original Civil War Tin Coffee Pot, smaller personal size

$135.00

Product Description

This is another great piece being offered, it is an original tin Civil War era Coffee Pot. The pot is typical of what the Civil War soldiers would have used in camp. It measures 5” high to the top and the diameter at the bottom is 3 ¾” – the overall width is 6 1/2”. It has a flat rolled-tin base, correct for the era and all the seams are soldered, along with the spout – the tin top is attached and flips open.

The Civil War soldier would consider coffee as his most important staple, right up there with his tobacco. When the soldiers awoke in the morning, the first thing they did was get the fires going for coffee, at the end of a march, the same thing, and again at the evening campfires.

This smaller size coffee pot would have been used by one or two soldiers. They would take turns making the coffee. A period photograph of soldiers with a coffee pot and cups shows just how important it was. In my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I go into more detail about the importance of coffee and coffee pots (see pictures). The pot remains in nice condition for its age and only a couple pin holes with rust. These pots look great in a display of a soldier’s personal effects.
