Original Civil War Pattern 1859 McClellan Cavalry Saddlebags, (SOLD,JW)

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is the Civil War pattern 1859 McClellan Saddlebags. It is tough to find a pair of Civil War cavalry saddlebags that are not stiff and damaged – this set is only missing one small buckle and the tips of the two closure straps. It also has both locking straps that would pass through the brackets on the rear of the saddle.

The center hole for the saddlebag stud is likewise in good condition. Bags are frequently broken at this point from wear or careless handling by someone who folding them too tightly. The covers of the bags are still pliable; there is some slight crazing from flexing and some wrinkling, but aside from some minor rubs have no finish loss.

The inner pockets and seams are a little stiff but in nice condition. Interior pocket laces are not there, but the lacing holes are not stressed, so there may never have had laces in them.

Overall, this is an excellent set of early McClellan Civil War saddlebags that would dress up any cavalry collection or just about any Civil War collection. This is the nicest set I ever had to offer.
