Original Civil War maker-marked padlock with key (SOLD)

This is another nice piece being offered; it is a Civil War era padlock. It measures 2 ½” x 3 ½” x ¾”. The brass keyhole cover is marked with “M.W. & Co.”. This was for Mallory, Wheeler, and Company, of New Haven, Connecticut, established in 1834.

This lock is in fantastic condition and the key will easily lock and unlock it. These locks were used for artillery ammunition chests, as well as for personal use. These locks and parts of these locks are a common find at Civil War sites. This piece would fit in well with any artillery collection or personal effects.
