This is another nice item being offered, it is a non-dug “US” Artillery horse bridle rosette. The face is brass with raised letters “US” and the reverse is coated with lead and the original attachment bar is still tightly attached. It has a diameter of 2”.
In “Horse Equipment of the Civil War”, by Howard Crouch, there is an example of this rosette (see pictures). There are two styles of this rosette, the US and the intertwined USA. The US examples are the rarer ones and difficult to find. This rosette is very nice, having the original patina, and only normal wear. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
