Gettysburg Stereocard of Little Rd. Top, Wheatfield and Veteran (SOLD)

This is another nice item being offered, it is an early 20^th century Stereocard on Gettysburg. It is the typical size of 7” x 3 ½” and was by the Keystone View Company. The view is titled “From Little Round Top, Looking Across Wheat Field, Gettysburg, Pa.”

It is a very interesting image, having what probably is a Civil War veteran seated on a rock with his hat next to him as he stares out over the battlefield. Across the road (no longer there) is the monument of the 155^th Pennsylvania Infantry. This monument was dedicated on September 17th, 1886 at a total cost, for the base and the statue, of $3000.

The back of the card gives a little history about the battle of Gettysburg and the fighting which took place in this image on July 2^nd, 1863. This rare card is in excellent condition – the aging veteran makes it a very moving image.
