Gettysburg New York Veteran’s Medal, Monument Dedication 1893

Product Description

This is another great piece being offered, it is a heavy pin-back medal made as a souvenir for the New York veterans attending the dedication of all the New York monuments at Gettysburg in 1893…during the 30th anniversary (see pictures). It is probably one of the heaviest medals out there, the disc is thick with a diameter of 1 3/8".

A pin-back metal bar on the top has “JULY 1, 2, 3” over “GETTYSBURG VETERAN” on the front. Suspended by a single link is a heavy 1 3/4” round medal. The front reads, “DEDICATION OF STATE MONUMENTS AT GETTYSBURG JULY 1, 2, 3, 1893 * NEW YORK DAY *” around the edge. In the center is the New York state seal. The back of the round medallion shows a monument surrounded by a wreath and the dates “1863” and “1893”.

A red, white, and blue cloth ribbon is suspended from the rear. Overall, the medal is in very good condition with only typical aging for an object over 125 years old. When this medal does become available on the market, they are usually in poor condition. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
