Confederate Virginia Coat Button, dug at Gettysburg (SOLD,BH)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is another great piece from the large Civil War collection I am working on, it is a Confederate Virginia State Seal 21.2 mm coat button. The face has Virtus slaying the tyrant with sword down. The reverse has a tight upright shank with the maker “Horstmann & Allien NY”. between two solid rings with inner ring of rays. These buttons were made by Steele & Johnson and produced circa 1860.

This beautiful button was an early recovery from the Gettysburg battlefield and originally came from the Dr. James Dickson collection via The Horse Soldier of Gettysburg (see accompanying note). The button is clear and has a great untouched patina. It comes in the glass top display case pictured and a signed and embossed Certificate of Authenticity.
