Product Description

This is another interesting piece being offered, it is the remains of a soldier’s pocket watch. There are three pieces, the brass cover, measuring 2 ¼”, the outer rim of the watch, and the watch key. It was recovered along Mineral Springs Road at the Chancellorsville, Virginia Battlefield.

The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863, near the village of Chancellorsville. Two related battles were fought nearby on May 3 in the vicinity of Fredericksburg. The campaign pitted Union Army General Joseph Hooker's “Army of the Potomac” against an army less than half its size, General Robert E. Lee's Confederate “Army of Northern Virginia”.

This is a nice personal item, and I am sure it was devastating for the soldier who dropped it – that is if he survived the battle. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
