Civil War Soldier's Cased Pewter cup (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Civil War soldier’s cased collapsible pewter cup. It is in a tin case, measuring 2 3/4" x 1 1/4". The cup consists of three pewter sections.

These cups were very popular during the Civil War, mainly because of their size which made it easy to carry in a haversack or backpack. In Time/Life Echoes of Glory - Arms and Equipment of the Union and The Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia, by Francis Lord, there are very similar examples of this cup.

In my recent book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I have similar cups and discuss the importance of such items (see pictures). Also, these cups are displayed in most Civil War museums (see pictures). Both the cup and case remain in nice condition, only showing signs of use for its age. It would make a nice addition to a display of a soldier’s personal effects.
