Civil War soldier’s Crucifix recovered in a Confederate camp in Petersburg, VA

$135.00

Product Description

This is a nice item being offered which has been in my personal collection for about 15 years, it is a Civil War soldier's Crucifix. It is made of brass and measures approximately 1" x 1 3/4" and still has a small piece of the chain remaining.

During the Civil War many soldiers were religious, especially the Irish, and were known to carry these types of articles. This crucifix was recovered many years ago at a Confederate campsite in Petersburg, Virginia.

There are the typical signs for being dug, but overall, it is in nice condition - having an untouched patina. In my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I go into more detail about the common soldier and religion (see pictures). It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
