Civil War One-cent coin, dated "1862"

Product Description

This is a non-dug U.S. one-cent coin which was minted in 1862 during the middle of the Civil War and the year of the Battle of Antietam. It remains in good condition with the date and other markings legible. Collectors today often do not fully appreciate the importance of the common circulated coins from the time period.

There are coins in many collections that once resided in the pockets of Civil War soldiers, and some that remain buried on the battlefields to this day. There are some that were won and lost at the card table, and some that paid for a stamp to send a last letter home. In my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I go into more detail on the soldiers an their money (see pictures). Ironically, these coins have become more accessible to collectors today than they were for many common people during the war. This would go nice with a display of a soldiers personal effects.
