Civil War era Tin Document Box (SOLD)

This is another nice piece being offered, it is a mid-19^th century document box. It is made of tin and measures 9 ½” x 6 ½” x 3” high with a bail handle on top. Originally it was painted black with gold trim and most of the paint remains.

These tins were used for keeping documents or valuables. This would be very useful for an officer and would fit in well with personal effects displayed around and in it. Originally it would have had a key, but as with most of these, it has been missing for many years. It remains in very nice solid condition.
