Civil War “black glass” Wine/Whiskey Bottle

Product Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Civil War wine/whiskey bottle. It is the typical “black glass”, actually a very dark green, measuring 9 ½” high with a diameter of 2 ½” on the base. In my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I discuss in detail the drinking habits of the Civil War soldier and officers, there were instances of some Civil War officers leading men into battle while drunk (see pictures).

This bottle is in very nice condition with no chipping or cracks. It has all of the typical signs of early bottles – attached lip, stretch marks, etc. I show some period photographs of soldiers drinking from the same type of bottle (see pictures). The tags are still on the bottle from a previous owner and could be removed if desired. I had this bottle for over 20 years, it would make a nice addition to any Civil War collection.
