Beautiful Civil War Vermont State Seal Button (SOLD)

This is another nice Civil War button being offered, it is a non-dug, coat size Vermont State Seal button. Across the top of the button is “VERMONT”, then there is a stag’s head and shield; below that within the ribbon is “FREEDOM & UNITY”.

The back has a standup shank with "SCOVILL MF'G CO. / (star) WATERBURY. (star) ".    These buttons were worn early in the war on state issued uniforms. While there are several known war time backmarks, the Scovill mark in a depressed channel is by far the one most recovered by relic hunters in various campsites/battlefields.
